There are 119 IGP’s in Italy. IGP or IGT producers can use either term, IGT is Typical Geographical Indication and IGP is Protected Geographical Indication. They are at the base of the scale of the various important designations attributed to different grades of wine, under DOCG and DOC categories, but above Vino da Tavola ( VdT).
The scope that winemakers in Tuscany have at their disposal for making IGT wines is quite incredible; they can choose from 87 grape varieties…Yes, 87!

Many of the famous cult wineries in Chianti Classico have achieved far more status from their IGT wines than the DOCG.
The importance of these wines in brand awareness alongside economic viability, is therefore undeniable.

Core of dark ripe fruit will round off the sharp edges of the youthful acidity, the result being a more harmonious imbibe. Needs a year or so bottle age.

Vivid acidity still in play on the back end. Soy sauce nuances and metallic notes noted. Very complex. Engaging in a positive manner.

Acidity is stringent but beginning to relax and loose those sharp edges. Has an unmistakable unique intensity of elegance. Solid and utterly convincing. As I have stated before, one of the great Merlot’s of Italy, driven by its terroir.

The palate is warm, full and elegant. Secondary notes of leather, oaky vanilla and smokey woodland accents. So plump and rich. Endless complexity. Fresh. Polished. Captivating. An extraordinary wine!
