On the palate freshness that gives suppleness, soft textures, still a touch of tannin tension in evidence. Acidity is brisk but fresh. The close in long and a little chewy. Needs bottle age.

At first, subtle aromas of petrol which after aeration disappeared. This is unusual in red wines from central Italy and normally occurs when a wine has undergone long maturation. Also a major factor in its detection is some tasters are very sensitive whilst others are unable to detect it at all. Found commonly in aged Riesling.

Back to the wine:

On the nose, delicate red and pink blossom florals, gardenia and dried herbs. Red and dark berry fruits with mild spice. Bing cherry, redcurrant, blackberry, damson, leather, oaky vanilla and mild toasted tobacco. Cool entry, muscular and agile, juicy and linear. Compact tannins and zesty acidity. Long and fruity backbone on the close.

Dense, sensual, deep and exotic, does not even get close to explaining the aromatic profile consisting of ripe dark berry fruits, sour cherry, warm liquorice, sweet scented tobacco leaf, white pepper, black date, crushed petals of violet, bluebell and lilac florals. Blackcurrant, blueberry, dark plum, exotic spice box, floral underbrush and orange peel. On the palate, rich and warm, a liquid version of the bouquet. More defined and precise than most previous editions. Wow!
