This year was my sixth visit to Terre di Toscana, the event held at the UNA Esperienze Hotel in Lido di Camaiore, near Pietrasanta on the Tuscan coast. Beautifully staged by L’ Aquabuona wine magazine, it is generally regarded by the trade and I, as one of the top wine gatherings in Tuscany.

One hundred and thirty Tuscan wineries take part in this two day showcase. There are many contributing factors to why I rate this event so highly: firstly, the venue is accessible with good visitors’ circulation and therefore very little “push and shove,” as so often is the norm at wine related meetings. Secondly, the actual winery owners / winemakers are mostly there in person to answer questions. Thirdly, the calibre of wineries attending is exceptional, and the range of wines on offer to sample is outstanding.

Every year I have attended Terre di Toscana, I have found a new winery that totally impresses. This is because the organisers cleverly, give a chance to the ‘not so well known’ producers to partecipate which adds to the intrigue. This year, yet again, I found a white wine that really impressed me: Terenzuola.

The atmosphere is best described as calm, engrossing, absorbing and appealing, in fact, it has always attracted serious wine enthusiasts and professionals.
Many of the wines on show I have been privileged and fortunate to have tasted prior, but this event gives me the opportunity to discuss with the winemakers any nagging questions that may have arisen during my tastings.
These are wines I greatly enjoyed at this year’s gathering, which I tasted for the first time in the following vintages:
Baricci BdM 2020
Caiarossa Caiarossa 2021
Castell’in Villa Chianti Classico 2019
Cupano BdM 2019
Fattoria Le Pupille Saffredi 2022
L’Erta di Radda Chianti Classico Riserva 2021
Lamole di Lamole Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna Grospoli 2020
Petra Petra 2021
Petrolo Galatrona 2022
Podere Fedespina Fedespina 2021
San Guisto a Rentennano Percarlo 2021
Sancaba Sancaba Bianco 2024
An interesting fact is that Italy produces more white wine than red. Yet, more than 90% of the wines I get sent for reviewing are red. On this occasion, I decided to focus on tasting and reviewing a few non red Tuscan wines. Aided and abetted by the interesting suggestions of my new and revered friend Carlo Franchetti of Sancaba fame.

My sincere thanks to Luca Bonci, Riccardo Farchioni and the committee of L'AcquaBuona enology magazine for their continued support and hospitality. My gratitude also goes to the wine producers showcasing their wines at this great event. Once again they organised a brilliant event at the Una Esperienze Hotel in Lido di Camaiore, Viareggio.
